The NHAS & Social Work Practice [register]

When: Wednesday, April 13, 2016, 12:00PM-01:15PM Eastern Time

Using the 2020 update of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy (NHAS) as a framework, this session is intended to expand the knowledge and capacity of social workers and allied mental health providers to address the mental health and psychosocial issues confronting people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. The 2016 Social Work Month theme “forging solutions out of challenges” reflects the historical role of social workers and allied mental health providers in working toward the NHAS goal of “Getting to Zero” for new HIV infections. With approximately 55,000 new HIV infections in the United States annually, the updated NHAS framework is a call to action. This webinar will provide a high-level overview of the updated NHAS, the HIV continuum of care and social work practice implications, and provide concrete recommendations on meeting the needs of clients, communities and the workforce. Participants should come prepared to share practice strategies and dialogue.

At the end of this Webinar, participants will be able to:

Understand the implications of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy on social work policy and practice
Discuss the latest evidence on HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention for individuals, families, and communities
Describe the role of social work in addressing health inequities in HIV/AIDS care and behavioral health services
Identify assessment and intervention strategies across social work practice settings, for the HIV continuum of care

Los Angeles County HIV Drug & Alcohol Task Force

The Commission on HIV has planned four listening sessions throughout Los Angeles County to target specific communities to assess the needs, gaps and barriers associated with HIV care and prevention services in Los Angeles County. This information will serve to assist in the development of our federally-mandated Comprehensive HIV Plan (CHP)*.

We have now confirmed logistics for the second session which will focus on: Women of Color.

We are inviting consumer (HIV+ and high risk HIV-) women of color to participate.

As reflected in the attached event flyer, the session is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 6-7:30pm.

The session will be held at the Commission’s office.

Bus tokens, a $25 gift card, dinner and child watch** will be available to those who participate. The session is strictly confidential.

We are respectfully requesting your assistance in recruiting consumer (HIV+ and high risk HIV-) undocumented participants. As reflected in the attached event flyer, the session is scheduled for Monday, April 4, 2016 at 6-7:30pm. It will be held Plaza de la Raza’s music room in Lincoln Park. Clinical Social Worker, HIV/AIDS Initiative, Los Angeles, CA (Part time, 15 hours per week)

The Actors Fund seeks a Clinical Social Worker to provide services at The Palm View, a residence for 42 low-income entertainment professionals with HIV/AIDS and other disabilities in West Hollywood, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for developing and facilitating individual services and group activities that will help encourage healthy aging and develop a sense of community among residents. You will work in conjunction with the Los Angeles Office HIV/AIDS Initiative team and provide comprehensive and clinically focused case management and support services to residents of the Palm View. In addition, you will plan and coordinate a variety of activities for the Palm View Residents as well as clients of The Actors Fund HIV/AIDS Initiative that builds upon and maximizes the creative skill set inherent in our population. This role is ideal for an organized, compassionate, creative and inventive Clinical Social Worker.

REQUIREMENTS
To interview for this position, you must have a Master of Social Work degree, LCSW preferred. We are ideally looking for someone with 2 years’ experience working with Disability and HIV/AIDS related issues and concerns, Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Dual Diagnosis, as well as experience working with seniors and aging in place.

Other helpful attributes:

Experience working with special needs adult population.
Demonstrates strong clinical and engagement skills.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and other agencies.
Ability to be self-motivated.
Understanding of Fair Housing rules and regulations helpful.
Working with Property Management, interdisciplinary teams helpful.

ABOUT THIS POSITION
This is a part-time hourly position based in the Western Region offices in Los Angeles. Clinical Supervision by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker will be provided.

National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is an annual observance to recognize the impact of HIV on women and girls. This year, the Commission on Status of Women In Partnership with Councilmember Gil Cedillo, Council District One, HOLA, the Department of Recreation, and Parks and the Los Angeles County HIV Drug & Alcohol Task Force are coming together to produce an awareness event. We are also collaborating with the following community sponsors: AIDS Project Los Angeles; AIDS Healthcare Foundation; the Alcoholism Center for Women, Heart of Art Gallery; and the Los Angeles Women’s HIV/AIDS Task Force.
