“Should We Conceptualize Major Depression a Medical Comorbidity of HIV Infection?” by Francine Cournos, MD

Dear Colleagues,

Major depression is the second leading cause of years of life lost to disability, throughout the world, and approximately 30% of people receiving care and treatment for HIV infection suffer from major depression. More can be done to address depression in those with HIV, and other infections, when it is considered a medical condition, and not just a mental disorder.

Visit ShareSpot at http://blog.aidsetc.org to read “Should We Conceptualize Major Depression a Medical Comorbidity of HIV Infection?” by Francine Cournos, MD, Principal Investigator at the New York/New Jersey AETC, to learn more about common depression screening tools, treatments and therapies HIV clinicians can deploy to address major depression in their patients.

Also, be sure to check out Depression and HIV (available at http://www.aids-ed.org/aidsetc?page=etres-display&resource=etres-445), a terrific resource on depression screening, treatment, and more.

Thank you,
